Amazon VPC
Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) is a service that allows users to create a private, isolated section of the AWS cloud.
Description
Amazon VPC enables users to provision a logically isolated section of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud where they can launch AWS resources in a virtual network that they define. Users have complete control over their virtual networking environment, including selection of IP address range, creation of subnets, and configuration of route tables and network gateways. This level of control allows businesses to set up their cloud environments to meet specific security and compliance requirements. For instance, organizations can create public-facing subnets for web servers while keeping their databases in private subnets inaccessible from the internet. The service also integrates seamlessly with other AWS services, allowing for scalable and secure architectures. Additionally, Amazon VPC supports features such as VPN connections, AWS Direct Connect, and security groups, enabling secure connections to on-premises data centers. This flexibility makes it suitable for a variety of applications, from simple web hosting to complex enterprise architectures.
Examples
- A healthcare provider uses Amazon VPC to keep patient data secure by deploying its database in a private subnet with strict access controls.
- An e-commerce company utilizes VPC to create a multi-tier architecture where web servers are in public subnets and application servers are in private subnets.
Additional Information
- Amazon VPC is integrated with AWS services like EC2, RDS, and Lambda, allowing for easy deployment and management of resources.
- Users can set up VPC peering connections to connect multiple VPCs and share resources between them.
